Standards set by the Code of Practice for Statistics
The Code of Practice for Statistics sets the standards that producers of official statistics should commit to. These are Trustworthiness, Quality and Value. Senior statistical leaders and analysts producing official statistics (here referred to as ‘producers’) must meet these standards. They are accompanied by practices that outline ways in which producers can act in line with each standard.
The Code of Practice also sets out standards for Intelligent Transparency. Statistics and data should serve the public good. They should allow individuals to reach informed decisions, answer important questions and provide a mechanism for holding government to account.
The Code also provides standards for Public Statistics, detailing essential principles underpinning the Code of Practice for Statistics. These standards provide a way for producers to show why they can be trusted and how they produce robust information that is useful and in line with users’ needs.
